AT IOWA
The Panhellenic Council is made up of traditionally-housed sororities who all fall under the National Panhellenic Conference. Here at the University of Iowa, the Panhellenic Council was founded in 1882 with Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi. Since then, we have grown to represent 14 chapters in our community. Each of our chapters has specific values and membership standards, but the whole community stands for leadership, scholarship, friendship, and service.
Members of the Panhellenic community are held to high standards and expected to uphold all bylaws, rules, and regulations. Joining Panhellenic means joining a group of people who will push you to grow and become the best version of yourself!

1
INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL
We, the Interfraternity Council (IFC), exists to advance conditions conducive to the success of its member chapters and to promote the progress of the fraternity experience. With this aim, the IFC actively encourages interfraternalism and collaboration with other fraternity/sorority governing councils and student governance bodies. Maintaining a positive working relationship and partnership with the campus administration, alumni, NIC and inter/national headquarters of member chapters is critical toward elevating the role of the IFC.

MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL
The University of Iowa is proud to be home to the founding of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. in 1986 and to Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. in 1990. The Alpha Chapters of both of these organizations continue to thrive within the University of Iowa Fraternity & Sorority Community. In 2009, members of Sigma Lambda Beta and Sigma Lambda Gamma began work on the creation of the fourth governing council at Iowa. On February 16, 2010, the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) was officially established.

NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL
At the University of Iowa, the first of the historic African American organizations to be established locally was Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Alpha Psi remained the only African American fraternal organization at Iowa until 1919. In that year, eight women formed a local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Only two more black fraternity and sorority chapters were formed at the University of Iowa before 1950: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (1922) and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (1949).
